Video Transcript for etrailer Trailer Coupler Latch Lock Spec Review

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at this etrailer 1/4" Diameter Trailer Coupler Latch Lock with the 2-3/4" span. Now this coupler lock here will secure the latch on your trailer's coupler to prevent theft of your trailer. And just to show you we're talking about, I'm gonna pop up an insert. You can see there's a coupler, and you can see how this lock goes through there and keeps that latch from opening. Basically, the trailer can't be removed from your tow vehicle when it's locked onto the ball, and also would be thieves can't secure your unhitch trailer to their tow vehicle with this coupler lock either.

Now it is a tamper resistant design, has a conical shape housing, which ensures a nice tight fit against the coupler latch. Has a pick proof screw and lock mechanism, provides security. If you notice right here on this end, there's a nice rubber end. And then on this end is a textured lock core. Makes it very easy to grip the lock.

You can see it has a nice rubber cover here that'll cover the key slot to help prevent internal corrosion. Just to show you how it opens, it's a, as we mentioned, it's a screw and lock mechanism. So you take your, comes with two keys, take your key, stick it in there, and then you just start turning your key, like you're unscrewing a bolt. And after you turn it there, the lock core will come out just like that. And now your pin is able to slide through the opening, and then put your lock on the other end.

Is a sturdy steel construction, has a nice chrome finish to resist rust and corrosion. And then to install it, once you slide it through the hole on your coupler, put this back on there. Once you get it in there, line it up and then just go ahead and start turning your key like you're tightening it down, and after a few turns, then it gets tightened down all the way. There you go, it's tight, tighten it up. You might have to back it off a little bit to take the key out.

Put your cup or your cover on there to cover the lock and it's locked into place, nobody's gonna access your latch. Now the locks can be key to like to match other etrailer locks. Basically if you go on a product page, you can select the key to like from the dropdown menu on the product page, and then just enter the number of locks into the quantity box that you need. This part is made in the USA. Again, this will fit on trigger latch style, our lever latch style ball couplers. A few dimensions on this I wanna give you, the overall length from one end to the other, it's right at 6-1/4". We mentioned the pin diameter is a quarter of an inch, and the important part is the inside pin length or the span. In other words, sometimes on some of the couplers, it'll have to go the whole span of the coupler. So you do wanna make sure this measurement is critical to fit on your coupler and that measurement on this one on the inside span is 2-3/4" for the usable length. But again, we're gonna go ahead and show you one more time. Take one of your keys, insert it into there. And then again, just start twisting your key like you're unscrewing and you can feel the lock core moving out. And once you get it unscrewed enough, it'll fall right off, just like that. And then to install it, insert that through the hole, line it up with your lock, and then just start twisting it like you're tightening a bolt. And again, once you get it all the way tightened like that, just back it off, take your key out, put your cover on and you're all locked ready to go. But that's gonna do it for the review on the etrailer 1/4" Diameter Trailer Coupler Latch Lock with the 2-3/4" span.

  • Recommended Trailer Coupler Latch Lock
Hey Lonnie, welcome back. The 7/8" Span etrailer Trailer Coupler Latch Lock item # e98889 you were looking at is going to be the best style of trailer tongue lock we have that can be keyed alike. We have these in quite a few different spans but they all fit 1/4" pin diameter like the Demco item # DM14793-81 and item # DM14040-95 you purchased this year. I have listed our options below: 2" Span item # e98886 2-1/2" Span item # e98887 2-3/4" Span item # e39PR 3-3/8" Span item # e98888 You...

  • Can the InfiniteRule Lock for Demco eZ-Latch Trailer Couplers Be Keyed Alike?
Hey Oliver, welcome back. The InfiniteRule Lock for Cast Demco eZ-Latch Trailer Couplers item # IR66FR can not be keyed alike. To get multiple locks keyed alike that are compatible with the Demco EZ-Latch like item # 12660-97SP, you'll need to go with our etrailer Surge Brake Coupler Lock item # e98887 for a 2-1/2" span or item # e39PR for a 2-3/4" span. Please note that you will need to purchase the locks at the same time and select the "keyed alike" option from the drop down above...

  • Recommended Coupler Lock for 2025 Sealion Boat Trailer
Hey Paul! If you want a solid lock that is also a good visual deterrent I recommend the BulletProof Hitches Extreme Duty Coupler Lock # BPH96VR. This is a universal surround style lock that is incredibly hefty and looks the part. If you're looking for a simple lock you can run a pin through the hole in the coupler like # e39PR. This has a 1/4" diameter with a 2-3/4" span so you will have to measure to make sure it will fit first.

  • Locking Pin Recommendation to Replace Snapper Pin on etrailer 12.5K Sleeve-Lock Trailer Coupler
To replace the Snapper Pin # CA-5196-PN that came with your 12.5K Sleeve-Lock Trailer Coupler # CTA-296 I recommend checking out the etrailer Trailer Coupler Latch Lock # e39PR. This is a great solution because our locks resist the elements really well, but it also has the perfect length for this coupler so you won't have a lot of excess pin sticking out the side of the coupler. This not only looks nicer but it also makes it more difficult to get tools like cutters in behind the lock to...
